Camel wool is one of the most luxurious types of wool. It is light, gentle and soft. Due to the small number of camels and the scarcity of camel wool resources, it is considered an exceptional natural fiber and is used in the textile industry as a very expensive material. Processing camel wool into yarn is a complex process that requires time and skill. Until now, camel wool was collected by hand by camel herders, combing the animals during the spring coat change. Only 200 grams of wool can be combed from one animal per day, and one camel gives only 8-40 kg of wool per year. The collected hair parts are separated, sorted, cleaned, dyed and used to make yarn, knitwear, carpets, blankets and blankets. The main exporters of wool are China, Mongolia, Iran, Russia, New Zealand and Australia.
Camel wool is lighter and stronger than other types of wool. All the listed properties ensure the longevity of the products, greater impact on health, the products stay clean for a long time, are very gentle and soft.
Wool is obtained from two-humped camels. These two-meter animals, weighing half a ton, are covered with fur that warms them during the cold period. Dark bronze or pink, warmth-giving hair can reach up to 40 cm in length and consists of two layers: undercoat and coarse fiber. Coarse fiber is the less valuable part of the hair furthest from the camel’s body, which is up to 27 cm long and 20 to 120 microns thick. ( 1 mm = 1000 microns). The undercoat is closer to the body, shorter, 4-13 cm long, and several times thinner – a layer only 5-40 microns thick. The underhair is the valuable, soft part of the hair with excellent insulating properties, which is called camel wool.
Camel wool – extremely breathable, warm when cold and heat resistant when hot. So these products are also perfect for summer. This should not be surprising – after all, a camel’s thick coat perfectly protects both from the hot Sahara sun during the day and from the cold at night.
Soft camel wool fluff stimulates blood circulation, helps relieve nerve pain and even provides a micro-massage.
